Coleman Handheld Radios
CR-411 FRS Radio small package, big performance

Communication in the field just got easier!
Cherokee Electronics and  Coleman have teamed up to make communicating while in the field easier and must smaller too. The new Coleman CR-411 FRS Radio is one small package with a big  list of features and functionality. www.wirelessmarketing.com sent me a pair of  the impressive little radios for a field test and at first glance, I was  thinking... how can these small radio units transmit very far?

So, I  headed out. Leaving one unit with my wife, I left our home and began walking  through our neighborhood to see just how far away I could get before we lost contact or experienced a drop in quality. I figured doing this in a city  environment would be a great test as most radios are severely affected by  powerlines, buildings and other interference's that are present. Was I in for a  pleasant surprise.

As I walked, I keep asking for updates from my wife who was sitting in the basement of our home. First block, no problems.  Second, third and fourth block and still no loss of quality in the communications. Ok, by now I was almost out of our neighborhood and asked my  wife to leave the house and head the other direction. She walked almost the same  four blocks in the opposite direction before any noticeable static began to show up!

First test down, now it was time to test them out in the mountains, (where I hoped to use the radios during hunting season this year).  Same awesome performances here! By the time approximately one half mile was put between the two units, and two canyons later. They did begin to get a little static in the signal, but most radios I have tested of this size, showed significant loss of signal much before then and where much larger in overall size. Although these radios are some of the smallest I have ever had my hands on, they packed a powerful signal that out performed most of double their size  and weight!

The impressive list of features include:

14 Channels
38 CTCSS Privacy Codes
Full 0.5 Watt Power Output
LCD  Display
VOX Operation
Key Lock
Multiple Call Ringer Melody Tones
Auto Channel Scan and Dual Watch Scan
Battery Level Indicator
Optional NiMH Rechargeable Battery Pack and Charger
Operates on 4 AAA  Batteries

Before you head to the field this year, make sure you  have a set of the CR-411 FRS Radios along.
